The Phantom Tollbooth

 

The students in the cast of Webster City Community Theatre’s upcoming production of “The Phantom Tollbooth” are busy rehearsing.  The children’s play, written by Susan Nanus, is based on the popular book by Norton Juster. 

Performances will be held April 16, 17, 23 and 24 at 7:30 PM and April 18 and 25 at 2:00 PM.  Reserved tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and go on sale Saturday, April 10. 

The story revolves around Milo, a bored young boy who unexpectedly receives a magic tollbooth.  Having nothing better to do, he drives through it and finds himself in the Kingdom of Wisdom and the Land of Ignorance.  He accepts a quest to rescue the princesses Rhyme and Reason and acquires three companions-Tock the Watchdog, Humbug and the Spelling Bee. They have many adventures along the way as.they meet King Azaz, the Mathemagician, the Whether Man, Dischord and Dynne, and a Dodecahedron.  A gatekeeper, page, word-snatching bird and a host of merchants, ministers, waiters, miners and demons round out the cast.

 Several cast members, including David O’Connell, Ashley Richardson, Connor Shannon and Bing Lovan, have multiple roles as Lethargians, ministers, miners, demons, merchants, and waiters.

 The play is produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.  Grants provided by Target and Webster City’s Hotel/Motel Tax will help defray expenses for this production.
